The 191 member nations of the World Health Organization will begin formal negotiations on the Framework Convention this October in Geneva, marking the first time that the WHO has invoked its
treaty-making authority. Tobacco-related disease currently kills some four million people worldwide each year. If current trends continue, by 2030, ten million per year will die from tobacco-related disease.
The briefing is sponsored by the Framework Convention Alliance, the international alliance of non-governmental organizations working to build support for the Convention. The CAMPAIGN
