OLYMPIA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2000--The following is a Statement by Secretary of Health Mary Selecky regarding the new Tobacco Control and Prevention funds included in the Senate's budget:
The tobacco prevention budget released today by the Senate is a positive step in the fight against tobacco use.
The budget keeps the original $100 million of tobacco settlement funds in the Tobacco Prevention and Control Account, and allows the department to use $20 million from the account beginning in July.
Although the Department of Health will need to make some reductions to the original proposal, this budget supports a program that will help people in every corner of our state.
