Through a grant from the American Legacy Foundation and the use of the state's tobacco settle funds, the state Department of Health has awarded Ulster County $95,000 for the implementation of a Youth Empowerment Program Against Tobacco use.
The Ulster County Youth CORE - Central Organization Responsible for Employment - dictated the county's application for the grant and will determine the countywide initiatives and will award mini-grants to youth entities that agree to the goals of SPOKES - Societies Promoting Opportunities for Kids Empowerment throughout Ulster County.
The Ulster County CORE, under the auspices of the county Youth Bureau, will administer the county's portion of the state campaign in a three-year grant.
